Over the years, there have been several discussions and arguments as to whether there is any such thing as African architecture.

There are two major opposing schools of thought on the existence of African Architecture. Whilst some argue that there is nothing like African architecture, there are others who do not think so.

The central focus of this conference was to facilitate the definition and establishment of what African architecture is and means today (and in the 21st century) and how it can be sustained into the future.
