A major contribution to the advancement of the study and practice of Architecture in Africa is to take place at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in June 2007. This is also a highly significant year for Ghana, when the fiftieth anniversary of Independence and the 200th Anniversary of the UK parliamentary abolition of slavery will be celebrated.
This conference is a joint initiative by the KNUST School of Architecture and the Ghana Institute of Architects.

• To define and propagate African Architecture
• To build relationships between those training for, studying and working on spatial and building projects in Africa and other global regions.
• To publish and disseminate current work in Africa, at a time when all global regions are increasingly making their unique contributions to the field of Modern Architecture.
The conference objectives are:
• To bring together major stakeholders to map out a common agenda for African Architecture and create a forum for its sustainable development.
• To provide the opportunity for African experts in Architecture to share locally developed knowledge and expertise with each other and the broader international community.
• To establish a network of African experts on sustainable building and built environments for future cooperation on research and development initiatives on the continent.
